So, the Patriarchs were Aramean. Deuteronomy 26:5's creed is "My ancestor Jacob was a wandering Aramean."
Aramean becomes the Hellenic word Syrian closer to Jesus' time, so both Jacob and Namaan are Arameans.
Also, the Roman centurion in Matthew 8:5 and Roman soldiers in Jerusalem in the First Century would most likely be ethnically Syrian [Aramean]. And another observation is that in a Semetic-speaking theocracy, some are more equal than others (Namman is commander to the king.)
So why don't we see Jesus as an Aramean traditions revivalist, , when the symbols, epithets, and personal names that he and his followers invoke are classically Aramean such as those found in the Mari Letters?
